Living Without the List

This stretch of time away wasn’t about what we did. It was about what we didn’t do.
At home, life runs on a constant loop of lists—things to get done, places to be, projects waiting their turn. It’s so normal we barely question it. Here, without really planning it, we stepped away from that pace. The days weren’t built around productivity or progress. They unfolded on their own.
We found ourselves doing less and noticing more. Sitting in the sun longer than usual. Watching birds from our site. Letting conversations stretch without looking at the clock. There was no need to account for the day or measure it against anything. That’s the thing about slowing down. You start to notice what holds your attention and what doesn’t. What feels natural and what feels forced.
We also had a steady flow of visitors—friends, family, and resort friends passing through or making their annual stops. Time spent catching up, sharing meals, sitting outside together. Nothing elaborate, just easy time with people we care about. All of those small moments add up to something meaningful.
Instead of turning our time on Hilton Head into a series of videos, I recorded clips along the way—from arrival to departure. No structure, no storyline. Just moments as they happened. It will sit alongside this post as a simple record of what the days actually looked like.
Of course, the pull of home never fully disappears. It’s there in the background—gardens waiting attention, the rental season around the corner, the usual list of maintenance and projects. It would be easy to spend time here thinking about all of that.
We tried not to. Not because those things don’t matter, but because they can wait. This time here is limited, and it’s easy to miss it by thinking too far ahead.
There’s a clarity that comes with simplifying like this. Fewer plans, fewer expectations, just being where we are without the pressure to be anywhere else. No list, no schedule, just being here.
We’re heading home without rushing it. A few stops along the way, keeping the same slower pace for as long as we can.
There’s plenty waiting when we get back—the old drafty house, the grounds and gardens, and work. That doesn’t change. We’ll deal with it when we get there.
Thanks for following along with us, both here and on YouTube. We appreciate you taking the time to read and watch.
Cheers!
