This visit to the island was special. We spent our entire time on Hilton Head Island. Unlike previous trips, we didn’t take any day trips. We've explored most attractions in the past and wanted to relax this time.
For us, the Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort is our home away from home. It's comfortable, beautiful, and familiar. The site we chose was peaceful and shaded. Live oaks draped in moss provided the perfect cover. Our little retreat felt just right. Each morning, we sipped coffee outside. The sound of birds filled the air, and our dog, Bell, patrolled the yard like she owned it. The pace was slow, the weather warm, and the beach or pool was our only destination.
Embracing Relaxation
We embraced relaxation. Beach walks were a daily pleasure. We lounged by the pool, biked along winding resort roads, and spent hours at our site. We watched the birds, waved to neighbors, and enjoyed the quiet.
Savoring the Cuisine
We also indulged in the local dining scene. Hilton Head is known for its incredible food. We visited all our favorites: Hudson’s, Skull Creek Boathouse, Fishcamp on Broad Creek, Poseidon, The Smokehouse, Papi Tequila, and of course, the Tiki Hut. Each meal was a delight. The seafood was so fresh we felt spoiled.
Island Adventures and Challenges
Of course, it wasn’t all food and sunshine. We encountered a few challenges. A mouse paid us an unexpected visit. Just one, but he was persistent. We tried foil and other deterrents but ultimately had to resort to poison. Sorry, little guy — the RV is not big enough for all of us!
Sidenote: Willy the RV cat was not successful in catching this critter that stayed hidden in the cabinets and plumbing chase.
Aside from that, we managed regular RV life: groceries, errands, cooking, and laundry. It was all much easier because we were in a place that feels like home. We chose not to create a strict itinerary. We didn’t feel the need to cram in too many activities. Instead, we simply enjoyed being there.
The Joy of Staying Put
There's something lovely about staying in one place. We weren’t constantly coming and going. We avoided driving all over and the pressure to “see everything.” Instead, we just lived. We enjoyed a beautiful spot, delicious food, good weather, and a few dear friends.
No trip to the island is complete without spotting a gator.

We left the island relaxed, recharged, and already looking forward to our next visit. Hilton Head has a way of reminding us to slow down and enjoy life — mouse and all.

Next up: our journey back to New Hampshire. We have three Harvest Host stops lined up — in North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania — each with its unique vibe. It might be time to trade sandals for shoes and find a jacket as we head north. However, we look forward to returning to our cozy bubble and that drafty old house we call home.
